The work
We wanted to capture Samuel L Jackson whilst he was filming, along with many other photographers representing national and local media organisations.
After a short while of no activity and a bit of scouting, we found a location where we could see Samuel L Jackson. Our experience for working quickly at events allowed us to be the first to post a picture of the star on Twitter.
It has been picked up by BBC News, Metro and The Scotsman.

The brief
Make It York wanted to promote their Love Local campaign with a Farm to Fork video in Shambles Market.
Many of the food traders in Shambles Market buy from the greengrocers that also trade there.
They wanted a short video for social media, as well as a shorter 15-second version suitable for Instagram Stories and Reels.
The work
To complete the work to the desired timeline, we worked with Your Creative Sauce to film at the farm and we completed the filming at Shambles Market.
For the shorter clip for Instagram Stories and Reels, we were asked to make it more of an ASMR video.

Chris Rankin at The Potions Cauldron and The Hole In Wand Photography
A press photoshoot at two of York's most magical venues
The Potions Cauldron and The Hole in Wand, ran by York business partners Phil Pinder and Ben Fry, have brought a special magic to York with their magical apothecary and wizard themed golf.
The level of magic increased when they brought Chris Rankin, the actor who played Percy Weasley (older brother of Ron Weasley) in the Harry Potter series to spend some time at their two business.

Press photography | Video
The brief
The client wanted a range of photos from both venues that could be used on their social media, as well as in press releases.
We only had one hour with Chris, so we needed to move fast to get all of the shots.
In addition to the photos, they also wanted a short video. We asked our partner, Alex Brown, to come and support us. This video is still in production and will be shared later.
The work
We arrived one hour before Chris was due, so we could visit both venues and see what we were working with.
This allowed us to pre-plan our shots and work faster once Chris has arrived and maximised the amount of work we could deliver.
We were able to deliver all of the photos on the same day to allow the press release to be sent the following day.
The brief
As well as video, the client wanted a video from each venue of Chris enjoying the attractions.
They wanted the videos to be short enough to perform well on social media, as well as teasing viewers about the hidden aspects of their attractions.
The work
We partnered up with Alex Brown Media to create the videos. Alex joined us on the shoot and was able to direct Chris in the short time we had him.
The videos were created with the magical style is expected from the two magical businesses, so they fit right in on their social media and can be used on their website.

Visit York Christmas
Feeling festive
Every year, Visit York puts on the magical St Nicholas Christmas Fair along it’s busy shopping streets. This market, along with it’s thousands of Winter Lights that decorate the city, have afforded York the title of UK’s most festive city.
That’s why we were thrilled to work with Visit York to create a magical Christmas video to highlight everything festive in the city.

The brief
Visit York were looking for a 1 to 2-minute video to sit on their website, as well as being part of their social media strategy.
To accompany this, they requested some shorter 30-second clips that could be used independently on social media, as well as 15-second clips for Instagram Stories.
Due to the nature of the Christmas market only being able to be filmed once it was open, we had to turn the video around in one week.
The work
We enlisted the help of freelance videographer and milnerCreative partner, Alex Brown Media, to work on this video.
Alex was able to film in the city over two days to capture all the aspects that make York so Christmassy.
Alex worked tirelessly to turn the video around the following week.

Autumn Lights
Bright lights, big crowds
Autumn Lights has grown from strength to strength. Increasing from two events in 2020 (despite a pandemic) to four events in 2021.
The event which has taken place in Lincoln, Sussex, York and Norfolk is a mixture of a drive-in event and fun fair. The family-friendly event features fun fair rides, street food stalls, light and fire performers, a DJ and two firework displays – one for younger children at 18:00 and another larger display a little later.
milnerCreative were brought in to support the event with on the day social media and photography.

Event photography | Social media
The brief
Autumn Lights wanted support to manage their social media channels during the event. This included posting throughout the event and responding quickly to messages and comments, as well as removing any spam and negative comments where relevant.
They also wanted a nice mixture of photography of all the different elements including light performers, DJ, funfair and food stalls and the fireworks.
The work
Our team of two were on-site from one hour before until one hour after each event. This ensured we were around for any issues that were raised.
The unique partnership of photographer and social media manager meant that we were able to turn around pictures the same day. Through each event, we could post high-quality pictures as they happened.
All pictures were fully edited and delivered by the next day so they could be used to promote the following week’s event.
Social media
Event organisers are spinning enough plates without the added stress of managing social media to the mix. That’s why Autumn Lights approached us for the second year running.
Prior to the event, we had a meeting to discuss FAQs, running order and account access. This meeting meant when we turned up on the day of the first event, we could get started without the organisers having to take time out to brief us.
Throughout the event we:
- Responded to 351 comments and messages
- Reached 0ver 99,000 people
- Generated over 10,000 engagements
Photography
With most event photographers, you would be expected to wait a couple of days for the pictures to be edited and returned. However, we were able to deliver images back to the client the following day. We also delivered over a dozen images during each event for use on social media throughout and to make the end of the event.
This unique partnership with photography and social media management is one of the things that set milnerCreative apart.
During all four events we delivered over 350 fully edited, high-quality images to be used on social media, their website and as part of advertising for future events. Check out a small selection of photos we took at the events below and click to see the full image.
